Embrace the New Year with Mindfulness!

2016 is finally coming to an end, and not a moment too soon! It’s been a tough year with unexpected political events like Brexit and Donald Trump’s election as US president. These developments have led to worries about rising nationalism, racism, and deepening divides in our already polarized societies. On top of all that, we’ve lost several beloved celebrities such as David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Harper Lee, Florence Henderson, and Leonard Cohen.

I can’t predict what 2017 will bring, but it’s wise to brace ourselves for more potentially stressful events. One major way to stay grounded amidst chaos is through meditation. While my own meditation practice hasn’t completely eliminated stress from my life, it has certainly helped. For example, last night I went to teach a meditation class feeling quite anxious about financial issues. After leading around 70 minutes of meditation, I left feeling calm and clear-headed.
